Message 09/01/21

Good evening,

Due to the circulating and highly contagious Delta variant of COVID-19 and the rise of positive COVID cases in our schools, universal indoor masking by all students, regardless of vaccination status, is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND ENCOURAGED. We also want to remind everyone that all adults are required to wear face coverings while inside school facilities.

Since school started there have been 294 students and staff members who have had to be quarantined because they received a positive COVID-19 test, they are symptomatic, or have come in direct contact with someone who is positive for COVID-19.

We are taking these numbers very seriously. We have been diligent in our contact tracing in combination with quarantine protocols and other mitigation factors in order to keep our staff & students safe and informed. You can find the daily COVID-19 report on the ChurchillCSD homepage.

As always, our number one priority is to protect students, teachers, staff, visitors, and other members of their households and support the continuation of in-person learning, and we need your help to make sure this happens.

Join us in MASKING UP so we can keep our learners in school

If you have question, please talk to your school principal or reach out to Superintendent Dr. Stephens.

Have a great evening.

Good evening,

Churchill County School District will not be holding traditional Parent Teacher Conferences this year. The Parent Portal, through Infinite Campus, allows parents to have information about their child/ren at their fingertips. Grades and the ability to message your child's teacher is more accessible than ever before. As such, we are providing multiple ways to connect with your child's teacher (see attached).

If you have any questions please contact your child's school.

Have a nice evening!

Northside Early Learning Center has experienced a spike in Positive COVID cases among staff.  We currently have 6 staff members quarantined and 4 of our 8 classrooms are quarantined.  At this time, after considering our options, we have decided it is in the best interest of our students and staff to close Northside tomorrow, Friday, January 14th. There is no school, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, on Monday, January 17th.  Students and staff will return to school on Tuesday, January 18th.

Good evening!

As the calendar team considers our calendar for the district, they would like to have your input about things that are important to you as they consider the school calendar!

All areas are up for conversation, including, but not limited to some of these ideas: i.e. start and end dates, consistency in times that students are not in school, holiday breaks, starting after Labor Day, year-round option (mid-July to early June), four-day week for students, etc. Please use these only as ideas and feel free to share specific considerations that are critical to you as we build a calendar built around learnin

We will be using ThoughtExchange for this feedback. This service is completely anonymous and does not limit you to what thoughts can be shared, so please feel free to share new thoughts, rate existing thoughts, and encourage others to complete the exchange as well so your voice is heard! The calendar team will use your thoughts to refine the draft calendars to be considered by the Churchill County Board of Trustees.

We are asking you to share your thoughts and then rate at least 20-30 of the thoughts that others have shared. Rating thoughts will help the calendar team see what is collectively important to our stakeholders. Again, your participation is anonymous, so no one will know who shared or rated which thought

Share a thought and then think of another one later? No worries! With ThoughtExchange you can come back often until Monday night at 10:00 p.m. (January 24) to not only rate new ideas that have been shared, but also share another thought if you have one

Please follow the link to begin sharing with the Calendar Team what your thoughts are:https://tejoin.com/scroll/ 847248924

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Thank you!

Good evening,

We want to thank everyone who participated in the ThoughtExchange to help our calendar committee develop two calendar options for the 22-23 school year. We now need your input on which calendar works best for your family.

Option A - traditional calendar

Option B -  modified 4 day week, which will give students 12 Fridays off - including holidays and/or planned breaks. Students will still be in school SOME FRIDAYS.

The two calendar options are attached.  Please scroll through the PDF and review both options. Then follow the ThoughtExchange link below to share with us which one you prefer.

Thank you again for your input and participation in these exchanges.

This is YOUR time with leadership to be sure you not only get to meet and visit with them, but express any concerns or have any questions asked as well.

There will be a few high school students available at the District Office to watch your younger children during the meeting, so you can be engaged in the conversation. There will be a laptop setup and support to help you create an Infinite Campus Parent Portal (if you do not already have one) or learn more about the portal.

ALL FAMILIES are encouraged to attend! We will have light refreshments and giveaways!

Please note, there will be no District Update this week. We wanted to take this opportunity to let our families know about the All Schools Family Consultation & Engagement Meeting. Message 2/23/22

Good evening,

As many of you know, as of a press conference held on 2/10/22 Governor Sisolak lifted the mask mandates in the state of Nevada, giving local school districts more control in areas related to the health and safety protocols related to COVID-19. However, Churchill County High School and Lahontan Elementary School were still considered to be in an "outbreak." However, as of 2/24/22 those outbreak mandates at CCHS and Lahontan have been lifted and face coverings will be  moved to highly recommended as of 2/24/22 based on the district's updated plan approved by the County Health Official and affirmed by the Division of Public and Behavioral Health.  If an outbreak is determined through our local plan, we will institute mandatory face coverings as needed. Those updates can be found at this link or on the district's homepage.

In addition, we will be discontinuing mandatory testing for students participating in athletics at the middle school and high school starting on February 27, 2022 and will no longer be required to test students who are leaving the county for activities and events. We will continue to implement our local testing plan as it exists through random testing in all of our schools as well as on-demand testing based on parent request for children or staff request for themselves for those who are symptomatic. 100% of our staff and students at K-12 buildings may be called as part of that testing, are encouraged to test, but can also choose not to test.  There is an incentive given on the day a student tests through that process
All other procedures, etc. related to quarantines and isolations are still in place and available for review in the current health and safety protocols including the use of a face covering if returning to school after a five-day COVID positive test or an extended quarantine due to exposure per those protocols.

Face coverings are currently required while riding in all district transportation per federal guidelines.
If you have any questions or concerns we ask that you reach out to Superintendent Dr. Summer Stephens at 775-423-5184

Message 3/08/22

Good evening,

Exclusions for COVID regarding guidelines for quarantining and isolation have changed due to new CDC recommendations. As such, ChurchillCSD will be making changes now in alignment with the new guidelines. We are reducing contact tracing and our exclusions are now more universal - erroring on the side of keeping students and staff in school. We ask that families and staff continue to monitor for symptoms and STAY HOME if they are not feeling well. The district will continue to keep our daily COVID count on the website up to date (see link here) and parents and patrons can reference it for their knowledge at any time.

Please remember, we are subject to adjust these guidelines based on cases of COVID in our school community and other state and national requirements. Should we see an uptick in positive cases of COVID, the district will communicate to families and students accordingly. As of 03/07/2022,these are the protocolsin place. We appreciate your support through all the changes this last year!

Please contact your school's Health Services staff if you have any questions or contact Stefanie Utz RN, Chief School Nurse, at NELC 775-423-3463. If you still have additional questions, you can contact the superintendent, Dr. Summer Stephens, at 775-423-5184, 775-460-6053, orstephenss@churchillcsd.com.
